Why would a licensed therapist become a life coach?

Many therapists are drawn to life coaching for its forward-focused, goal-oriented nature. Coaching offers more flexibility and the ability to work with motivated, high-functioning individuals who may not need clinical mental health care but still seek support, structure, and transformation. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A GOAL IN MIND. This adventure often is geared to those feeling lost, fearful and individuals knowing they need change but do not know how to begin!

What’s the difference between therapy and life coaching?

Therapy often addresses mental health diagnoses, trauma, and healing from the past. Life coaching focuses on the present and future—helping clients set goals, improve mindset, navigate transitions, and create actionable plans without diagnosing or treating clinical conditions. We may identify what may have you stuck and fearful however we will break down the limiting beliefs and move you into live the life YOU desire. It is sooooo fun!

Are former therapists more qualified as life coaches?

While life coaching doesn’t require a clinical background, therapists bring advanced training in human behavior, communication, ethics and identifying patterns and beliefs that are hindering your growth. Their experience often leads to deeper insight, stronger boundaries, and more effective strategies, even when working in a non-clinical role.

Do you use your therapy skills when coaching?

Yes and no. I bring the wisdom, listening skills, and understanding of human psychology from my clinical background, but I will not provide treatment, diagnoses, or therapy in this role. Coaching sessions are present- and future-focused, with an emphasis on growth and action.

Can you help me figure out whether I need coaching or therapy?

Absolutely. A consultation can help determine which path is best for your goals.  If coaching is appropriate, we can begin building a plan for the results you want.
